Maritime and marine projects

Norway has a unique, and in part world-leading, position in terms of maritime and marine expertise. The fortune that forms the basis for the Foundation’s capital was made by Kristian Gerhard Jebsen’s shipping business. It is therefore natural for the Foundation to contribute, through research and competence-development, to strengthening Norway’s position in the marine and maritime industry and in relation to the ocean as our most important resource.

So far, two KG Jebsen centres have been established in the maritime and marine fields, both of them in fields in which the coastal cities of Bergen and Tromsø have competence, business interests and jobs. The Foundation has also contributed to the new rescue vessel Kristian Gerhard Jebsen II, which is stationed in the Bergen area.

The Foundation also has some smaller projects in this field, for example the KG Jebsen Professorship in Technical Security at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and three book projects; Rederihistorie – Kristian Gerhard Jebsen, Bergen og Sjøfarten Volume VI and Byen, sjøfarten og skipperne
