Funding for a Professorship in Technical Safety
In October 2012, Stein Haugen was appointed to the KG Jebsen Professorship in Technical Safety, a five-year professorship gifted to NTNU. In this way, the Foundation wanted to contribute to the university’s work on strengthening the academic environment relating to RAMS (Reliability, Maintainability, Availability and Safety). The RAMS group works across many industries, such as oil and gas, rail, hydroelectric power and wind power, and it works in close cooperation with other academic groups at NTNU and SINTEF. In addition to increasing the RAMS group’s teaching and research capacity, Stein Haugen also made an active contribution to drawing attention to the RAMS group, both internally at NTNU and externally in relation to other educational institutions, research communities and industry. The Maritime Law Project: Kristian Gerhard Jebsen and Jantzens Fund
Young Nordic lawyers can receive support to study and practise maritime law in the USA or England from a dedicated fund that is administered by Nordisk skibsrederforening (Nordisk Defence Club). Read more on the fund’s website here.

The book project ‘Geared for growth – Kristian Gerhard Jebsen and his shipping companies’
The Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation’s existence is the result of Kristian Gerhard Jebsen’s success in the shipping industry. A book/documentation project describing how Kristian Gerhard Jebsen succeeded during a period when many others in the same industry experienced great challenges and crises is therefore very valuable for the Foundation. Following a partly chronological and partly thematic structure, the book starts with Gearbulk in 1968, then goes on to describe Gearbulk’s growth during the demanding decade from 1970 to 1980, the possibilities that opened up and that Kristian Gerhard Jebsen exploited in the 1980s and 1990s, and the increase in the number of vessels and technological developments in the 1990s. The book also goes into more detail about Kristian Gerhard Jebsen’s qualities as a leader and entrepreneur, as well as his analytical abilities etc., all of which played an important part in the success he achieved in shipping. Professor Stig Tenold is the project manager/author and the whole book project is funded by the Foundation.

The book project ‘Bergen og Sjøfarten Volume VI’
In cooperation with Bergen Shipowners Association, the Bergen Maritime Museum Foundation has published five volumes on Bergen’s maritime history from the oldest times up to 1973. The museum wanted to continue the series with a sixth volume, which will cover the period 1973–2010. In addition to contributing new knowledge about developments in Bergen’s maritime history during this exciting and demanding period for the shipping industry, the projects also aims to highlight the important role the maritime industry has played and continues to play in the city. Professor Stig Tenold has been engaged by the Bergen Maritime Museum Foundation as project manager for the book project. The budget for the project is NOK 4.57 million, and the Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Foundation is one of the contributors. The book is scheduled for presentation in April 2021 in connection with Bergen Maritime Museum’s 100th anniversary.

The book project ‘Byen, sjøfarten og skipperne’
The foundation supports the publication of Bergens Skipperforenings (the Bergen Skipper Association’s) jubilee book Byen, sjøfarten og skipperne (The city, shipping and skippers), by Dag Bakka jr. The book was published in December 2017.
