K.G. Jebsen Center for Genome-Directed Therapy in Cancer

Although there have been great advances in cancer treatment over the recent years, metastatic spread of cancer is in most cases still an incurable disease
However, in recent years, major technological advances have been made within the field of genetic analyzes. This makes it possible to study the molecular mechanisms that cause cellular proliferation, as well as treatment resistance. Such analyzes will fundamentally change the way we diagnose and treat cancer patients, and also give us the opportunity for much more personalized therapy.
At K.G. Jebsen Center for Genome-Directed Therapy in Cancer, we will conduct new clinical trials on several different cancer forms. This will be done in order to investigate how changes in the cancer genome affect sensitivity to treatment and how cancer therapy should be designed to exploit the genetic defects present in cancer cells. In particular, we will focus on breast cancer, colon cancer, sarcoma, lung cancer and bladder cancer as well as prostate and head&neck cancer. The aim is to find better methods for identifying which patients may benefit from specific therapies but also, in a long term perspective, to develop more effective therapies that can lead to healing of many patients we cannot cure today
