K.G. Jebsen Inflammation Research Centre

The centre conducts research on chronic inflammatory diseases, a group of diseases that cause considerable suffering and disability for those affected and that have very large costs for families and for society at large.

Inflammation is the body’s response to infection or injury. It usually ends when the body’s immune system has eliminated the threat, but it persists in many cases for reasons that we do not understand. Such chronic infections lead to the destruction of healthy tissue, scar formation and, over time, loss of function. The establishment of the centre means that the research groups can produce new, important knowledge that will form the basis for developing new forms of treatment.
