We congratulate Professor Torbjørn Omland on his election into the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters
Omland received his diploma in a solemn ceremony at DNVA’s annual meeting on 3 May 2024. It is considered a great honor for both national and international researchers to be elected into the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters is an independent, nationwide organization that encompasses all scientific disciplines and has approximately 950 members from Norway and abroad organised in two divisions and 16 groups based on fields or disciplines.
The academy represents Norwegian science in Norway and vis-à-vis foreign academies and international organisations. The academy also organizes international meetings and symposia, as well as professional lectures and meetings. These can pave the way for new projects and facilitate networking among the academy’s members.
– First and foremost, membership means gaining access to a community of many researchers and professional fields. It provides the opportunity for interdisciplinary contact and new impulses, says Omland.
New candidates are proposed by current DNVA members and are assessed on scientific criteria before they are eventually selected. Admission of new members takes place once a year.
Other current and former leaders of the K.G. Jebsen Centres for Medical Research in DNVA are Edvard Moser, NTNU, Pål Njølstad, UiB, Johanna Olweus, UiO, Ole Andreassen, UiO, Jan Haavik, UiB, Ragnhild Lothe, UiO and Ludvig Sollid, UiO.
